H hook
Small amount of worsted weight cotton yarn.
You will be working in rounds without turning.
The chain at the beginning of each row is not counted as a stitch.

Chain 4.

Round 1: 8 double crochet in 2nd chain from hook, join with a slip stitch.
(8 stitches)

Round 2: Chain 2, 2 half double crochet in same stitch as chain 2,
*2 half double crochet in each in each stitch around, join with
slip stitch in 1st half double crochet. (16 stitches)

Round 3: Chain 2, 1 half double crochet in each stitch around,
join with slip stitch in 1st half double crochet. (16 stitches)

Rounds 4-5: Chain 1, 1 single crochet in each stitch around,
join with slip stitch in 1st single crochet. (16 stitches)

Round 6: Chain 2, 2 half double crochet in same stitch as chain 2,
*2 half double crochet in each in each stitch around, join with
slip stitch in 1st half double crochet. (32 stitches)

Round 7: Chain 2, 1 half double crochet in same stitch as chain 2,
*2 half double crochet in next stitch, 1 half double crochet in next stitch,
repeat from* to end, join with slip stitch to first double crochet. (48 stitches)

Round 8:(trim) *Chain 3, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch in next stitch,
repeat from* to end, join with slip stitch in first slip stitch.
