Crochet Log Cabin Dishcloth

My cloth is about 8 inches square.

You need:

a size H crochet hook
Any color combination of worsted cotton that you like.
You could use all one color too. The repetition of colors is really
up to you. Don't get wound up in adding colors the "traditional"
way for a log cabin pattern if you don't want to!

Section One

With H hook and red yarn;

Chain 6.

Row 1: Single crochet in second chain from hook and next 4 chains. (5 single crochet)

Chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2-5: Single crochet in each stitch. ( 5 single crochet & 5 rows)

Section Two

Row 1: Chain 1 and turn your work (clockwise) so you can crochet in the ends of the rows.

Do 5 single crochet (total) in the ends of rows 1-5.

Rows: 2-5: Single crochet in each of the 5 single crochet just made in the ends of the rows 1-5 of section one.

Section Three

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without tuning your work over. You will always have the front side of your cloth facing you when you start a new section,

Row 1: 10 stitches single crochet across the ends of the rows on

side of your cloth, chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: Single crochet in each stitch across. (10 stitches)

Section Four

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without turning your work over. You will always have the front side of your cloth facing you when you start a new section,

Row 1: 10 single crochet across the ends of the rows on side of your cloth,

chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: Single crochet in each stitch across. (10 stitches)

Section Five

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without turning your work over.

Row 1: 15 single crochet across the ends of the rows on

the side of your cloth, chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: 15 Single crochet in each stitch across. (15 stitches)

Section Six

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without turning your work over.

Row 1: 15 single crochet across the ends of the rows on

the side of your cloth, chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: 15 Single crochet in each stitch across. (15 stitches)

Section Seven

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without turning your work over.

Row 1: 20 single crochet across the ends of the rows on

the side of your cloth, chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: 20 Single crochet in each stitch across. (20 stitches)

Section Eight

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without turning your work over.

Row 1: 20 single crochet across the ends of the rows on

the side of your cloth, chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: 20 Single crochet in each stitch across. (20 stitches)

Section Nine

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without turning your work over.

Row 1: 25 single crochet across the ends of the rows on

the side of your cloth, chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: 20 Single crochet in each stitch across. (25 stitches)

Section Ten

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without turning your work over.

Row 1: 25 single crochet across the ends of the rows on

the side of your cloth, chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: 20 Single crochet in each stitch across. (25 stitches)

Section Eleven

Change yarn color in last stitch made, turn clockwise again without turning your work over.

Row 1: 30 single crochet across the ends of the rows on

the side of your cloth, chain 1 and turn.

Rows 2 - 5: 20 Single crochet in each stitch across. (30 stitches)

I stopped building here. I then did one row of single crochet

around the entire outside of the cloth, placing 3 single crochet

in each corner. You could go on as long as you want.
